This session will help farmers and rural landowners understand what a trust is, and whether it is the right tool to protect and manage their assets.

We'll hear from engaging speakers, learn about tools, resources and best practices, we will then discuss how we each relate to these topics. The Feed Dealer Seminars are specifically targeted for nutritionists, veterinarians, crop and management consultants, extension educators, and dairy producers with specific interest in nutrition-oriented topics. The 2021 Cornell Field Crops annual field day will be held August 12th highlighting the latest field crops research across CALS and providing an opportunity for in-person exchange of ideas and experiences. The Southern Tier Sheep and Wool Grower's annual wool pool will be Friday, September 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Otsego County Fair Grounds, Morris, NY. Only clean white wool, both good clean and off-sorts/short wool, will be accepted.

This sale will consist of 9 lots consisting of 300 head of USDA graded beef cattle as well as a set of exposed Angus Heifers. Cattle have been vaccinated using modified live vaccines for IBR, BRSV, PI3, BVD, and clostridia, and pasteurella, and have been de-wormed. 

Your Extension Specialists will be chipping corn stalks and checking dry matters to target corn silage harvest timing. We are collaborating with Tully Ag Center and John Winchell, Territory Sales Representative with ALLTECH. Dry matters will be determined using NIR, which allows a short turn-around time. Masks will need to be worn at the mill, as well as 6 feet of social distancing.

This hybrid course will introduce attendees to the key raw milk parameters that influence organic dairy product quality & shelf-life and how to control these parameters at the farm. The first days and weeks on the job set the course for a new farm employee. Given the tight labor market, a successful onboarding program can be an essential tool to help reduce employee turnover, increase employee safety and productivity, and contribute to a farm's success. The three-session Onboarding Zoom Series focuses on navigating employment requirements and improving human resource management practices, including enhancing training skills.

This online Zoom class will look at the logistics and business of grazing solar arrays with sheep. Shepherds can get paid to graze solar arrays for the purpose of keeping the foliage below the level of the panels. Good grazing principles still apply and there are things to consider like fencing, water, moving animals and the timing of lambing. Join us to learn more about it from experienced grazers, Lewis Fox and Niko Kochendoerfer of Taconic End Sheep, LLC. Lewis and Niko own 400 Katahdin ewes in VT and operate Taconic End Sheep LLC. The flock grazes solar sites in the Northeast between May and October and moves back to VT for the Winter and lambing season.

Advancements in technology in the past years made AMS a reliable machine that can successfully harvest milk. However, as with any other system, management is key to guaranteeing productivity and efficiency. In AMS, cow behavior is a big piece of the puzzle. Researchers have been studying how early life nutrition, environment, and human-animal interaction can affect cow behavior and how cows with different personalities perform in AMS.

By combining the theory and practice of farm business accounting into a single class, this class empowers students to set up and maintain a record keeping system that is accurate, efficient, and useful. The course is delivered in an online format, providing self-paced learning from the comfort of home.

Graziers of all types of livestock are invited to these discussion-based meetings. We will share a pot of soup while watching a presentation on how the grazing animal's rumen works. Discussions will follow on member's grazing operations; their strengths and weaknesses. This will help set up topics for future meetings. These meetings are free to attend. The New York Certified Organic (NYCO) dairy and field crops farmer-to-farmer meetings will finally return to the Jordan Hall auditorium on the Cornell AgriTech campus in Geneva. The meetings had been held in this location for many years, but COVID-19 forced the group to try alternate formats the past few years.

Meetings: February 14 will be focused on dairy and March 14 will be focused on field crops. Both meetings will run from 9am to 1pm and participants are encouraged to bring a dish to pass for lunch. The meetings are free to attend and all farmers are welcome.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jerry Rusch, DVM will be presenting the Relationship between Vaccinations and Nutrition. Dr. Rusch was raised on a grain and livestock farm in Southern Indiana. In 1991 he received his DVM from Purdue University and then spent two years in dairy practice in Eastern Pennsylvania. In 1993 Jerry and his wife, Dr. Karen, purchased Spring Mill Veterinary Service, a mixed animal practice in Mitchell, Indiana where he continues to practice. He works with his beef cattle clients on their vaccination programs and is involved with the Indiana Beef Evaluation and Economics Feeding Program (IBEEF), a retained ownership program through Purdue University. Jerry is currently president and general manager of the Springville Feeder Auction, which is a local farmer owner feeder calf marketing cooperative.   He is also a member of AABP and the Society for Theriogenology. Jerry joined Multimin USA in March 2018.

This series of 4 online workshops reviews goat production and management for beginners. Key management concepts will be reviewed using pre-recorded, interactive videos.  

The need for the directives is to protect medically important microbials from the more rapid development of resistance. The loss of efficacy can occur with any drug, but care needs to be taken so we do not lose those products that are medically important for human health. With the elimination of OTC antimicrobials for livestock use, veterinary diagnosis is needed prior to treatment to ensure these products are used judiciously.
